Date: 19.08.23 Time: 09:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m. Venue: The Park Hotel, Kolkata Resource Person: Ms Debamita Gupta Participants from School: Ms Srabanti Debnath, Ms Neha Banerjee Organised By: OUP AND FABER – CASTELL H3 HEAD,HEART,HAND The workshop focuses learning through art, particularly visual arts, at the primary level. Lines can talk and move. According to AnahitaLee, she uses the phrase teaching through the arts vs art integration because the latter often gives the sense of adding on an art exercise as an afterthought – for example teaching fractions out of a regular Mathematics textbook and then adding on a diagram of a pizza divided into fractions. Genuine art integration is employing the arts as primary pathways to learning academic concepts. Art is the oldest intra-human activity. According to Lee, `Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form’. The things which were being discussed in the workshop are: 1. 6 elements of art(line, shape, colour, space, texture, form) 2. Star breathing activity to calm down the students immediately. 3. Proportion of art. 4. Demonstrating learning in Infographics. 5. Graphic organizers. 6. Anchor charts. 7. Drawing and craft. 8. Pictures. 9. Simple colour coding in Art Integration. 10. Creating a photo essay. 11. Maintaining a picture dictionary. 12. A-Z handmade book with picture as a project. For example, student can find out the names of only flowers with the alphabets A-Z and make A-Z book with the name of the flowers, like this students will learn the name of the flowers. 13. Pop up all about me fact game. Students can develop 5 critical skills: • Creativity • Collaboration • Confidence • Cultural awareness and empathy • Critical thinking
