Resource Person: Mr. Rajeevan Karal [Author, Academician and Teacher Trainer] Participants from School: Mrs Monalisa De Sarkar, Mrs Mousumi Mukherjee Organised By: Collins TOPIC OF THE WORKSHOP: Language for Literacy – Teaching English to 21st Century Learners The workshop focused on teaching English to 21st Century learners, by highlighting their differences from previous generations in emotional, skill-based and knowledge aspects. It discussed about the new teaching approaches and strategies that engage learners actively, making the process of learning more enjoyable and productive. It was really an interesting, informative, useful and inspiring workshop where we got to learn lots of things through different interactive sessions. The workshop mainly highlighted on the difference of teaching and learning pattern between the 20th Century Learners and 21st Century Learners. The workshop focused on the following points. • During the Industrial Revolution, the necessity of Education started with the development of language. • Language teaching involves different other skills like: Communicative Skill, Thinking Skill, Imaginative Skill, Analytical Skill. • Use of the SWOT [Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats] principle while learning language. • To discover Grammar through designing different practice exercises. In a very approachable and engaging manner the above mentioned topics were discussed and explained to all the teachers who were present in the workshop by the resource person Mr. Rajeevan Karal. Emphasis was laid on the fact that the methods of teaching should change along with the thinking and approach of the educators to adapt themselves to a developing modern society. THE WORKSHOP: Language for Literacy – Teaching English to 21st Century Learners is a flexible, community based learning procedure that engages teaching assistance to make the teaching-learning process more easier and enjoyable with various modern tools to make the transition go smoother with the least amount of hurdles. It is a blended solution of traditional teaching methods supported by the modern digital assistance that can help the learners to progress and succeed at its core.
